It was a warm, summer afternoon. Our land was gilded in golden sunlight. I was nursing our sweet baby on a blanket under the shade of a tree and could not be more content, listening to the birds, knowing this was our new home.
Gilded Glen Farm!
In June of 2024, my husband, our six-month-old and I moved out of our apartment in Medford and onto 11.3 acres in Grants Pass, Oregon, to pursue our dreams—and they are big dreams!
We want to create a life where we are self-sufficient, provide food for the community, and build something really special for our children and their children.
Over the next year, we would raise chickens for eggs then meat, start a garden, milk goats, then sell those goats, acquire bees, cows, and build so much infrastructure. Our little boy learned to crawl, then climb, then walk, then climb some more in the comfort and beauty of our land.
Our land! It is about half forest, half farmland, with a beautiful glen in the middle. Our glen has been gilded in sunshine, frost, snow, mud, wildflowers, and now: cows and cow pies! It took me almost a year to name our farm, but I kept coming back to the glen as well as our first afternoon when I was able to nurse my sweet baby out in the open overlooking the land.
Now, you have the story of naming our farm and our first year as farmers. We plan on offering a variety of products, so be sure to stay in-the-know by signing up for our monthly newsletter!
